WHAT WE EAT

How our diet affects climate change.

Together with the transport and manufacturing industries, food and agriculture also play a key cause of climate change and global warming.

LIVESTOCK

The food system contributes about 30 percent of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, with the largest proportion coming from animal-based food (Cohen, 2017).

WATER SUPPLY

According to the Stockholm International Water Institute, the world could run out of fresh water by 2050 unless people reduce the proportion of animal-based foods to 5% of total calories (John Vidal, 2012).
